How to Clean the Air in Your House

The atmosphere inside your house may be two to five times more polluted that the air outside. It is hard to believe, but it's true. We are going to examine several reasons that cause this indoor pollution and list some possible ways to keep the inside air a little cleaner.

Don't empty your vacuum bags inside the house. Your vacuum cleaner picks up just about everything, i.e. dirt, crumbs, fur, dead bugs, etc. If you empty your vacuum inside the house, you're only going to stir up the debris in the vacuum bag and further pollute the interior of your house. Take the vacuum cleaner outside before emptying the container or changing the vacuum bag.

Take your shoes off before coming into the house. You can bring all kinds of dirt, viruses and bacteria into the house on the bottom of of your shoes. Before you enter the house, scrape off the bottom of your shoes and then exchange your shoes for slippers before entering the house.

Don't dust with a dry rag. If you dust with a dry rag, the dust is going to go up into the air and settle elsewhere inside the house. By using a damp dust rag you can trap the pollutants on your rag and remove them from the house.

Don't use aerosol cleaning products. The particles in aerosol sprays are small and can linger in the air longer, giving you and your family the opportunity to inhale them. Switch over to liquid products to prevent a little air pollution.

These few suggestions for preventing indoor pollution can help everyone in the family breathe easier, especially those family members who have asthma or allergies.
